Introducation

The Department of Medicine of National Cheng Kung University has newly established the Department of Geriatric Medicine. In the future, courses and programs related to Geriatric Medicine, Long-Term Care, Translational Medicine, Palliative Care, and Healthy Aging will be offered. In response to the needs of the super-aged society, we will deploy high-quality talents in advance for the hospital for the elderly that will be opened in 2025.

Chengda University has always attached great importance to elderly care and related medical issues. It is an inevitable result that Taiwan will enter a super-aging society. Therefore, it is necessary to have a special discipline to train senior medical talents so as to be able to respond to the future medical trends. The School of Medicine will set up a research center for geriatric medicine in the future. This research center is divided into three major aspects: training and personnel training in geriatric medicine; Part of it is a set of care systems for the elderly, hospitals and communities. The School of Medicine plans to cultivate talents who are complete in all three aspects to respond to future medical trends.

In the future, medical care for the elderly will be a very diverse and complex care system, and it is urgent to train relevant talents to cope with this trend. Therefore, it is hoped that the future development of geriatric medicine in research, or teaching, etc., can closely cooperate with various medical-related units to achieve the goal of holistic care and benefit the society.

In the early days of the establishment of the Department of Geriatric Medicine of Chengda University, there was no space and teacher quotas, so the license of the Department of Geriatric Medicine was temporarily suspended between the major pillars between the Department of Family Medicine and the Department of Psychiatry to commemorate. However, Chengda Medical College has planned to give more space after some disciplines are relocated to the Second Medical Building, which will be opened in 2022. In the future, at least 3 full-time teacher posts will be provided to offer courses and courses related to senior medicine.

The Department of Geriatric Medicine of Chengdu University will actively engage in senior-related teaching, research and services, and shoulder the responsibility of cultivating senior medical talents and knowledge promotion, and will also contribute to the improvement of senior medical knowledge among teachers and students in the school.
